Colombia Strike: General strike in Colombia defies government crackdown

 Strikes began with a proposed tax hike by Colombian Government which affected everyone the equivalent of seven hundred dollars monthly. Intentional to financially crack representatives out of a deep economic hole, due to the pandemic and other distresses, it instead buried them in a fall of anger and discontent over a mass of extra issues. The Government backed down, arguing the measure, but then announced they`d revisit it in another form, following to full consultation and input. 

Protest numbers have been falling recently, but that`s likely to change today. 

Colombia's government and national strike committee, made up of major unions and student groups, reached "pre-agreements" on Monday which the government said it hopes will lead to talks to end almost a month of widespread protests.

The pre-agreements will now be examined by the strike committee's assembly and by other government representatives.
